Elise S1 Lights Fixing & other stuff

Fixing the head lamps was a no-brainer, (see my previous post on how to remove them and just reverse the process). Ok maybe not as simple as that but since the Elise is such a simple car, you're bound to figure out how it's done ;-)

Got new brakes and signal LED lights. They came from eliseparts.com one of the largest online shop selling all things Lotus although the website is named eliseparts!

The LED lights completely revamped the look of the car. To remove the rear brake and signal lights, open the boot and remove the canvas floor and wall cover by lifting it off the edges. The lights screws are towards the rear of the boot behind the third brake light.

Remove the two screws and just replace with the new lights. In my case, I had to enlarge the screw holes on the body a bit. Used a tiny file so as to not enlarge the hole too much. A bit of bending over and stretching is required.

eliseparts.com conveniently provided the lights with labels for right and left indication and which wire goes where. They also provided a new rear Sub Loom and a special LED Flasher unit relay so it is completely Plug and Play. You can also remove the connection to the reverse lights as the new LED lights has its own reverse light.

Here's their description on the LED lights from eliseparts.com website:

Full set of 4 LED Rear Lamps.Incredibly bright output. Supplied with New rear Sub Loom and a special LED Flasher unit relay so it is completely Plug and Play. You can remove the lower Reverse and Fog lamp if preferred as these units have a built in Reverse and Fog lamp. The two outer lamps have Indicators with Stop and Tail Lamps. The two inboards have Stop and Tail lamps and the Fog Or Reversing Lamp. You can configure ALL FOUR Stop and Tail Lamps to illuminate together. Fitment takes about 90 minutes

Their claim is 90 minutes to get the job done but it took me about 30 minutes :-)

A Close-up look of the brake lights.

However, the right signal light had 3 dead LEDs but eliseparts replaced them at no extra charge.

Added the headlight covers. When fixing the covers, it is advisable to start the adhesive tape from the bottom to the top and down again. Butyl adhesive is the best to get a all round fix to the clamshell and no drilling is required.

Finally, fixed the LOTUS wheel badge.
