UPDATE | New COVID-19 Cluster | 16 July 2021, 8:44 PM

37 new COVID-19 clusters were detected today, including two education-related clusters that includes children as young as  three and four-year-olds.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said the two clusters were the Putra Bertam Cluster, Penang, with the index case being a three-year-old Malaysian girl who was reported positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

"The children started showing symptoms on July 10. A total of 11 individuals have been infected in the cluster, including eight new cases detected, today," he said in a statement. Next, the Jalan Cengal Selatan Cluster in Kuala Lumpur with the index case was a four-year-old boy who reported positive as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

Dr Noor Hisham informed that the child started showing symptoms on July 11, and 13 individuals had been infected in the cluster, including nine new cases detected, today. Another education cluster that was also detected today was the Jalan Pulai Indah 27 Cluster in Johor.

In addition, 19 new clusters involved workplaces, eight communities, four detention centers and three high-risk groups.
